Here's my rendition of Carly Simon's "You're so vain" on my Roland E-80.

No styles, no MIDIfile. Just me playing all parts in Cubase. I then transferred the sequence to the internal sequencer of the E-80 and added the strum guitar in Guitar Mode (since Cubase has a hard time understanding that while recording :-) ). After that, I used the MakeUp-tools of the E-80 to get the mix right. If anyone feels he or she can sing this, let me know! I played the lead on top of it just to make it "complete".

i enjoyed this too. Very well sequenced

A fine job of sequencing, Burkels, very nice definition between the parts and lots of feeling and expression.

The arrangement was excellent.

My choice of the melody instrument would have been a sustaining type sound like harmonica or even saxophone, but that's just personal taste and the electric piano worked very nicely all the same.

that is really fine work.
I could have played in through my E 80 Ver 2 but I forgot how to do it. I only did that once. But even through the computer sound card and the sound wall it is really fine.

Bebop, this is not a MIDI-file, so you couldn't run it through your E-80 (you could of course play the MP3 through it, but that doesn't make much sense unless you like the way your E-80 plays MP3's a lot :-)

Only one comment, soundwise about the whole thing, Burkels...

To be honest, I felt that the snare drum sound is a little 'flat', especially when pushed harder. Very little tonal dynamics, etc.. Perhaps if you layered it with one of the V-Drum (maybe the Pop or the R&B) snares that open up and rimshot at high velocities might help it snap out of the track a bit more... Just a thought, anyway. I know those seventies tracks did have a fairly dead snare drum, but not THAT dead!

BTW, seeing as how you put the MIDI file into the E80, added the Guitar Mode stuff and used Makeup Tools, you ought to have an SMF that COULD be played on anyone else's E80...
